So, all you slackers who didn't come to Knit In last night because you had more important things to do (holidays? what holidays?!) missed the grand reincarnation of JERRY GARCIA in all his perfect grey-haired, pot-bellied glory! Mmm, squeezably soft, too!

Of course, he was without legs or his trademark silver glasses, but Emily reassured us that he will be complete before finding his way underneath her Dad's Christmas tree. Her felted bag turned out great, too.

And I hear Kate finished the Flying Spaghetti Monster! Way to go!!

Knitted Gift Labels and Knit-Alongs

Are you looking for some cool labels for you knitted gifts? Then check out this blog, and click on the link for knit gift labels in the "more stuff" column on the left-side. I found these labels through a holiday knit-along that I joined. It's not too late to join, or just check out all of the great gifts that people are making. Finally, I mentioned last week that I plan on joining a knit-a-long called Knit & Crochet the Classics. The idea is that each month everyone reads the same classic novel, and then knits or crochets a project that is inspired by the novel. I'm going to join in January, and we will be reading Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolfe. Anyway, I hope you all have a happy holiday and find some quality knitting time.

Carribou Coffe Report

So there were several people at Carribou last night, more than have been at Sweetwaters in a few weeks actually. Carla & I were the first to arrive, followed closely by Elisha & Anne. Elisha only stayed for about a half an hour, but her seat was promptly filled by new member Victoria, who is making a GORGEOUS scarf out of Kid Silk Haze using a pattern by Kim Hargreaves. Emily also joined us, just as Carla was leaving.

Keely & Lynne stopped by briefly but unfortunately couldn't stay. Lynne had a very bad cold & had no voice at all.. but that didn't stop her trying! ;) Hope you are feeling better!

In general, the atmosphere was nice.. however it is very small & there was a shocking lack of comfy chairs. I believe the general consensus was that we would give it a few more trys. Thursday seems to be a great alternative night & it would be nice to have another meet-up option if you can't make it on Tuesday.

Warm Up America

Hey guys!

Last night Elisha suggested that we get involved in some charity knitting & suggested Warm Up America.

I like the idea. We can all knit 7" x 9" squares, join them into one or more afghans & send them to WUA or distribute them locally (which they actually recommend). We certainly have a large & growing homeless population, and I'm sure the homeless shelter or women's shelter would appreciate it with the cold on its way.

What are your thoughts?

Ann Arbor Knit-In was the 7 pm activity, and our own Kate Remen-Wait wrote the article. From recent meetings it sounded like not everyone saw the article, so I scanned the article and picture of Ingrid and I. Is this our first press coverage?

Jennie's Last Knit-In

Sadly, last Tuesday was Jennie's last time at Ann Arbor Knit-In, because she's
moving to DC to be with her hubby and to finally go to library science school.

Denise was working on her second disco sock, and be sure to check out the mate on her blog. Kim was working on the front of a tank for herself in the new Debbie Bliss cotton/silk blend.

Ingrid continued on I do/I don't for a friend's wedding, and Lynne was also working on a sock in a blueberry-purple. Check out its mate on her blog.

Jennie was hemming the bottom of her lovely chocolate decadence sweater, which she has designed herself. I don't remember what Elecia was working on, but she was taking a break from a pink lacy sweater made out of kid silk haze.

And here are the two Grinnellian knitters. Jennie actually taught me how to knit at this extra-curricular class, and I made a hat out of Peace Fleece. That's how all Grinnellian knitters get indoctrinated into Peace Fleece yarns. Thanks everyone, for putting up with all our silly Grinnell and Wisconsin stories. I am working on the Isis wrap from Interweave Knits summer 05. I've had to rip it back three times already. Grr.

Tuesday night knitting

Was amazing! There was a huge turnout - at least nine regulars, a few new people, plus four refugees from from another local kntting group. Normally there are only three or four of us. It was actually a bit overwhelming and hard to carry on conversations, but exciting, too.

Jillian brought a lovely wooden spindle for Lynne to try (she failed miserably), Ingrid appeared with a huge bag of stash to give away, and Jennie modeled her new cloche hat. But the most thrilling event of the evening? The fairy door sighting!

Knit Fest 2005

Hi All!

I sent an email out to the yahoo group, but I thought I would mention it here as well.

Lynne told us about Knit Fest 2005 at knit-in on Tuesday. I am definitely going! Is anyone else interested? There are several classes that I am interested in that are on Friday & Saturday so I am thinking of getting a room for 1 (maybe 2)night(s). I would love to split with someone. :)

There are a few classes that are already full, so I recommend registering asap.

Tuesday Night At Sweetwaters

Tuesday Night was the night. It totally rocked. And Ingrid brought along her Mum! And it was awesome. Here they are, with Ingrid debuting "Preppy", which she had just finished seaming! It was the first official trying-on! And Ingrid's Mumw was knitting a wrap in some really great fiber she had spun herself that was a blend of merino and POSSUM!!!

AND! There was another debut when Emily showed up wearing Grace!

And Sarah came, working on her second sock! They're so cool with that green and purple action. Hmmm...

Look, you can see the first all-done sock on the table next to her.

And Kim is plugging away on a tank ALL FOR HER! (and look how happy she is about it!)

But I totally didn't get out the camera until after Denise and Elecia had left and Libby ran away from her boring meeting and came and talked to us a bit. And I ate a big piece of Key Lime Island Cheesecake. It was tasty.

And we totally snarked all over the latest Interweave.

AND! Tomorrow, or, er, TONIGHT! Thursday! Casa Dominick's! 7ish! Sangria! Knitting! Talking smart! Be there or be sorry!

I fixed the Join Us! link on the right sidebar so that it links to our yahoo group. Now people can actually join us when they click Join Us.

Any and all curious knitters are welcome to join us, either in person or virtually. If you want to actually meet face-to-face and knit (what a concept), we've been meeting Tuesday nights at Sweetwaters Cafe in downtown Ann Arbor. There's not really an official starting time, but we usually reach critical mass by 7:30 PM or so. Look for us in the back room.

If you want to actually become a member (learn the secret cast-on, perform mysterious rituals with yarn), sign up at our yahoo group.

Meeting tonight, new Bat Channel

Whoever wants to join us tonight, we'll be knitting at Cafe Felix on South Main in Ann Arbor. People will probaby straggle in all evening. I'll try to be there at 7:30 at the latest. Newcomers welcome! Look for the happy knitters.

If you need enticement, they have wine and real food. You'd be surprised how a bit of wine will loosen up your gauge.

Yarn Sale

Heads up, all. A Gathering Basket in Chelsea is going out of business (I think I mentioned this at our May 4th meeeting) and prices have gone down to 40% off everything (except consignment items, which include felt for rug hooking and "locally grown" roving, among other things). I picked up some yarn and books today.

They have very limited hours until their last day - 12 noon to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday. Their last day is May 21st.

There was a great turnout at Ann Arbor Knit In last night at Sweetwaters, and here are the photos to prove it:

That's a couple of happy knit-bloggers, Denise and Ingrid. Ingrid is working on the Apricot Jacket from Rebecca, and Denise is working on an incredibly soft Pink Fluffy Cloud sweater.

Kim, another knit-blogger and spinner extraordinaire, does not suffer from second sock syndrome. She's smiling, too, but I wanted a close-up of the pretty sock.

Alecia (also smiling) cleverly putting her knitting to use even as it is taking shape.

Jennie and Emily pose with some of the Sugar 'n Cream that was thrust upon them. It is destined for Project Scrubbie greatness. Jenny is knitting something sortof crinkly. Emily, of course, is knitting up some Peace Fleece, the official fiber of their alma mater.
